Denmark

Denmark, formally the Kingdom of Denmark, is a constitutional monarchy in Northern Europe. The real Denmark bordering Germany in the South and maritime against Sweden in the east and Norway to the north. To Denmark belong, in concept Rigsfællesskabet, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, both with a developed self-government. Denmark is administratively divided into five regions and 98 municipalities since 1 January 2007. Denmark has approximately 5.5 million inhabitants, of whom nearly a quarter of the city of Copenhagen. 72 islands were inhabited the 1 January 2008.

Denmark is a parliamentary democracy where the government must have the Danish Parliament, the People's Parliament, the confidence to be left under the Constitution. The country joined in 1973 by the European Community, which later became the European Union. Faroe Islands chose not to join with the rest of Denmark, including Greenland. After a referendum, Greenland withdrew from the EC in 1985 because of disputes over fishing rights. Denmark is a member of OECD, NATO, UN and many other international organizations, and participates in the Schengen cooperation.

The name of Denmark is derived from the Germanic ethnic group Danes mentioned the 500's.
